But Invisalign is still orthodontic treatment. It requires planning, daily commitment, and professional supervision. It is not the best solution for every person or every movement.
How Invisalign Works
Invisalign treatment uses a series of clear trays that fit over your teeth. Each set applies controlled pressure and moves selected teeth a small amount.
You wear each set for the prescribed period, then change to the next. Treatment only works while the aligners are in your mouth. Most patients need to wear them approximately 20 to 22 hours each day, removing them primarily to eat, drink anything other than water, brush, and floss.
What Invisalign Can Treat
Clear aligners can address many cases involving crowded, gapped, crooked, or shifted teeth and certain bite problems.
The important word is “certain.” Two smiles that look similar can require different movements. Root position, gum and bone health, the relationship between the jaws, and available space all affect whether aligners are appropriate.
The only dependable answer comes from an in-person evaluation.
Invisalign Is Not Right for Everyone
Some complicated bite problems, significant rotations, large spaces, or jaw-related movements may be treated more predictably with braces or specialist orthodontic care. Active gum disease and untreated decay also need attention before teeth are moved.
If another approach would provide a safer or more predictable result, I will say so. That may include recommending an orthodontist. The goal is not to fit every patient into Invisalign. It is to choose the treatment that fits the patient.
What Happens During a Consultation?
We begin by discussing what you would like to change and evaluating your alignment, bite, dental health, existing dental work, and the movements required.
If Invisalign is a good fit, we take the records and digital scan needed for a customized plan. Before treatment begins, we discuss the proposed movements, expected timeline, responsibilities, and cost.
Daily Life With Invisalign
The aligners fit into normal life, but they require a routine.
Wear them consistently. Frequently leaving aligners out can slow treatment and make the next set difficult to fit.
Remove them for meals. There are no brackets limiting what you eat, but clean your teeth before replacing the trays. Plain water is generally fine while wearing them; remove them for other beverages.
Use the case. Aligners are easily wrapped in a napkin and discarded. If one is lost or damaged, call rather than deciding on your own whether to skip ahead.
Expect possible attachments. Some movements require small tooth-colored attachments that give the aligner a better surface to grip. They are subtle but may be visible close up.
Discomfort and Speech
Most people describe pressure or mild soreness for a day or two after changing trays. Significant or persistent discomfort should be reported.
Some patients notice a slight lisp at first. The tongue usually adapts as you become accustomed to speaking with the aligners.
How Long Does Treatment Take?
Many patients complete treatment in approximately 12 to 18 months. Simpler cases may take less time, while more involved cases take longer. Consistent wear and follow-up appointments are important.
Teeth do not always move exactly as a digital plan predicts. Additional aligners may be needed to refine the result. We provide a realistic estimate after evaluating your case rather than promising the same timeline to everyone.

After active treatment, retainers help maintain the new positions. Long-term retainer use is an important part of protecting the result.
