Dental implants are one of the most natural-feeling ways to replace a missing tooth. They look like your own teeth, function like your own teeth, and — done well — can last for many years. Here’s how they work and how to think about whether they’re right for you.

A dental implant is a small post — usually made of titanium — that takes the place of a missing tooth’s root. Over time, your jawbone grows around the post and holds it firmly in place. A custom-made crown is then attached to the top, so the finished result looks and works like a natural tooth.
Implants can replace a single missing tooth, support a bridge across several missing teeth, or anchor a full denture so it stays securely in place. The right approach depends on your mouth, your bone, your overall health, and your goals.
The placement of the implant and the restoration of the implant — the visible tooth on top — are two distinct steps in the process. We can talk through both at your consultation and help you understand what your treatment would involve.
Implant treatment begins with the health of the whole mouth, not just the empty space. We evaluate the gums, available bone, nearby teeth, bite, health history, medications, and habits that may affect healing. Age by itself does not determine whether an implant is appropriate.
Some patients are ready to move forward after the initial evaluation. Others may need gum care, removal of a damaged tooth, bone grafting, or another preparatory step first. If an implant is not the most predictable option, we will explain the alternatives clearly.
Not every part of implant treatment is necessarily completed by the same provider. After evaluating your case, we explain which steps can be handled at Elite Dental and when a specialist should be involved. When referral is appropriate, we help coordinate the sequence so you understand who is doing what and when.
An implant is also not the only way to replace a missing tooth. A fixed bridge or removable option may fit some patients better. The goal of the consultation is to compare realistic choices and help you make an informed decision without pressure.
Most adults in reasonable health are candidates, but it depends on the strength of your jawbone, your gum health, and your overall health. The honest answer comes from a look in person and a conversation about your goals.
Implants are designed to be a long-term solution. With good care and regular checkups, many implants last for many years. We’ll go over what helps them last.
People are often surprised by how comfortable the process is. Each step is done with the area numbed, and there’s usually less recovery than people expect. We’ll walk you through what to expect at every stage.
It varies. Some implant cases happen over several months because your jawbone needs time to integrate with the implant. We’ll give you a realistic timeline based on your situation.
The right starting point is a consultation. We’ll look at your mouth, talk through your options, and lay out what the full treatment would involve and who would handle each part of it. There’s no pressure — just a clear picture.
